Düsseldorf - Fortuna Düsseldorf brought an end to any lingering promotion hopes 1. FC Kaiserslautern had with a 4-2 win at the ESPRIT Arena on the final day of the season.

Erwin Hoffer gave the hosts a flying start with a goal after just two minutes, from Timm Golley's pass. The celebrations had barely died down when Ben Halloran made it two with an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Karim Matmour pulled a goal back for the Red Devils with a sensational long-range strike, before Mohammed Idrissou brought them level when Kevin Stöger's shot was only parried.

Kaiserslautern gambled in the second half, sensing a small opportunity still to catch Greuther Fürth, but Fortuna hit them on the break with Michael Liendl tucking the ball in from close range. It was all over for Kaiserslautern in the 87th minute when Charlison Benschop had the final say.
