Hamburg - FC St. Pauli’s hopes of securing promotion were ended on Matchday 32 as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to VfR Aalen, leaving them seven points adrift of third placed Greuther Fürth with two games remaining.

The visitors enjoyed a perfect start to the game, when Robert Lechleiter steered Michael Klauß’ deep ball into the back of the net to hand the Baden-Württemberg side the lead with only three minutes played. Chances were at a premium before the break at the Millerntor Stadion, however, with St. Pauli unable to benefit from their domination of possession.

With the home side in dire need of a win to keep their promotion hopes alive, Roland Vrabec’s men threw bodies forward after the break, but it was deep-lying Aalen who remained the more threatening side, as they extended their lead shortly before the hour mark when Leandro Grech converted a penalty, before Manuel Junglas sealed three points with a fine finish from outside the box.
