Düsseldorf - Erwin Hoffer’s first-half brace inspired Fortuna Düsseldorf to a convincing 4-0 win over FC Ezrgebirge Aue, ensuring they maintained their promising form in the second half of the season, whilst consolidating their mid-table position.

Düsseldorf dominated the opening exchanges without posing a great deal of threat in front of goal. However, after Aue began finding their feet in the encounter, Hoffer struck twice in the final ten minutes of the half, first firing a powerful finish in at the front post before collecting another Michael Liendl through ball to round the keeper on the stroke of half time.

There was little change after the break with Erzgebirge failing to click in the final third. As a result the visitors were duly punished twice in the closing stages as Matthis Bolly’s fine solo effort ended any chance of a comeback, before Ben Halloran’s delightful chip clipped in off the underside of the bar to put the icing on the cake of a fine Fortuna performance and their fourth straight win.
