Düsseldorf - Goals from Sebastian Maier and Lennart Thy earned FC St. Pauli a 2-0 win at Fortuna Düsseldorf in Bundesliga 2.

St. Pauli had made the better start at the ESPRIT Arena and duly took a deserved lead half way through the first period when home keeper Fabian Giefer could only palm Christopher Nöthe's effort into the path of Maier, who tapped home for his third goal of the season.

Michael Frontzeck's side continued to have the better of the play after the restart and could have doubled the lead when Nöthe let fly from distance, but the 26-year-old's shot flew just over the crossbar. Düsseldorf defender Bruno Soares then failed to get enough power behind his header as the hosts searched for an equaliser, but Thy rounded Giefer in stoppage time to seal the win as St. Pauli leapfrogged Karlsruher SC into fourth in the Bundesliga 2 table, while Düsseldorf drop down to 11th.
