Düsseldorf - Norbert Meier tasted defeat in his first game as head coach of DSC Arminia Bielefeld at the hands of his former club Fortuna Düsseldorf after a 2-0 loss in the ESPRIT Arena.

The visitors started positively and were unfortunate to fall behind just before the break when Fortuna’s quality in attack told. Erwin Hoffer picked up the ball in an attacking position and slipped in Dutchman Charlison Benschop, who took one touch before finishing with aplomb.

In the second half Bielefeld continued to compete well, but Fortuna’s improved pressing forced them back and Hoffer sealed the result with 74 minutes played, cutting through a flat-footed defence before slotting home. Bielefeld remain second-bottom, while Düsseldorf continue their rise up the table after a fourth game unbeaten.
