Bielefeld – DSC Arminia Bielefeld have appointed Norbert Meier as their new coach, less than 24 hours after Stefan Krämer was relieved of his duties.

Meier will have the remit of leading the East Westphalian side to survival at the end of their first season back in Bundesliga 2.

'One goal'

"We have one goal: survival," proclaimed Meier. "We can only achieve that together." The 55-year-old former Fortuna Düsseldorf coach takes charge only days before facing his ex-club on Friday night. No matter who the opponents, however, Meier knows that only one thing will count. "In the next two and a half months, all that matters is Arminia and we will work hard from today to achieve our objective," he added.

Krämer was relieved of his duties on Sunday night with the promoted side stuck inside the bottom two after a 2-0 defeat to FC Ingolstadt 04. Five points currently separate Bielefeld from safety with 12 games of the season remaining.
