Düsseldorf - 1. FC Union Berlin missed out on the opportunity to move at least temporarily above 1. FC Kaiserslautern and into third place after being forced to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Fortuna Düsseldorf.

The promotion-chasing visitors edged the early exchanges in terms of possession but it was Fortuna who were looking the more dangerous when they did get forward. Daniel Haas had more than once come to Union's rescue before Tugrul Erat intercepted an errant pass and curled in from the edge of the box to put the hosts in front ten minutes before half-time.

The men from Berlin came out for the second 45 with all guns blazing and had already hit both the bar and post before Sören Brandy hauled them level with a far-post shot just shy of the hour mark. Erat had the ball in the net again with just over quarter of an hour to go but the effort was ruled out for offside and there were no further goals in what remained an open contest through to the finish.
