Hamburg - Karlsruher SC closed the gap on FC St. Pauli with a 2-0 win at the Millerntor Stadion on Friday night.

Ilian Micanski and Manuel Torres supplied the goals, while a demonstration of defensive resilience ensured Karlsruher held on to the points, which lifted them up to third in the table, at least temporarily.

After a bright start to the game from the visitors, St. Pauli soon set about showing who was boss, albeit without creating any openings. Karlsruhe resisted well with fine defensive organisation, before striking through Micanski, who was on hand to tuck the ball into an empty net. The game opened up as the hosts looked for a way back in, but Torres put paid to their hopes five minutes from time with an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from a tight angle.
