Berlin - 1. FC Union Berlin succumbed to a third defeat in their last four league outings with a disappointing 3-1 home reverse to VfR Aalen.

After a hard-fought first half which was devoid of goalmouth excitment for long periods, the game came to life in the second period, as capitalised on a mistake in the Union defence to put the visitors in front. Torsten Mattuschka soon levelled matters with a superb free kick, but the hosts had no response to Valentini's second of the night in the 72nd minute. Substitute Michael Klauß grabbed a third late on to seal the points for Aalen, who move further away from the relegation zone.
