Bochum - Struggling VfL Bochum 1848 caused the upset of the weekend by ending 1. FC Köln's unbeaten start to the season courtesy of a fully-deserved 1-0 win on home soil.

The hosts began the brighter of the two sides, carving out their opportunities at will, the best of which fell to Ken Ilsö, whilst reducing the Billy Goats to half-chances. Bochum were unrelenting in putting the league leaders under pressure after the restart and reaped the rewards of their endeavours when Richard Sukuta-Pasu held off the challenge of Dominic Maroh to head Jonas Aquistapace’s cross into the back of the net. The visitors poured forward in search of an equaliser in the closing stages, with substitute Anthony Ujah hitting the post, but it wasn’t enough to snatch a point. The Billy Goats retained top spot in Bundesliga 2 despite the result.
