Berlin - Union Berlin's promotion challenge took a hit as they were held to a goalless draw at home by Karlsruher SC.

The hosts looked keen to bounce straight back from a 4-0 humbling at the hands of league leaders 1. FC Köln in their last outing, but they came up against a solid and disciplined Karslruher defence. That restricted Union to chances from set pieces, but Torsten Mattuschka's free-kick into the side-netting midway through the first half was as close as they came. Marc Pfertzel missed a good opportunity just before the break and Sören Brandy nearly grabbed a late winner, but Dirk Orlishausen managed to save and earn the visitors a point.
