Cologne - 1. FC Köln moved top of the Bundesliga 2 standings ahead of the main weekend Matchday 9 programme on the back of a 1-0 win at VfR Aalen.

Marcel Risse scored the only goal of the contest in the 32nd minute to take the still unbeaten Billy Goats up to 17 points and just ahead of Greuther Fürth - who host Dynamo Dresden on Monday - on goal difference. Aalen remain mid-table on twelve.

Risse's seventh competitive goal of the season was just reward for Köln's first-half dominance, the recent signing from Mainz finishing off a fine pass from Daniel Halfar just as Aalen looked to be finding their way into the contest. The hosts upped the pressure in search of a leveller after the interval, but they made little headway against the best defence in the division (only four goals against) and Köln held on for another maximum haul in their bid to get back into the Bundesliga.
