Cologne - In a battle between two promotion hopefuls, 1. FC Köln and 1. FC Kaiserslautern shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Rhein Energie Stadion.

Kaiserslautern were the better side for the majority of the match, but failed to make the most of their goal scoring opportunities. Willi Orban had the visitors' best chance of the match, heading against the bar following a corner. Patrick Helmes almost put the hosts in front in the first half, but failed to hit the target from Miso Brecko's cross.

The game petered out in the second half, with few chances to speak of. Simon Zoller could have ensured Kaiserslautern left North-Rhine Westphalia with three points in the bag, but failed to find the target from only a few yards out. Köln will be the happier of the two sides despite dropping points as the result moves them into second place.
