The visitors increased their control after the break, with set-pieces and long-range shots almost leading to goals on various occasions, but after withstanding the Red Devils' pressure, Sandhausen's No9 Frank Löning earned the hosts a valuable win with a close-range finish in the 85th minute.

The victory lifts Sandhausen to ninth, while Kaiserslautern sink to seventh.
