Frankfurt - Karlsruher SC got off to a winning start on their return to the Bundesliga 2, beating FSV Frankfurt 1899 thanks to a late goal from Dominic Peitz.

There was little between the two sides in the opening stages, with clear-cut scoring chances at a premium. Confident-looking Karlsruhe, however, began taking more risks after half an hour, with Rouwen Hennings and Koen van der Biezen both wasting glorious opportunities for the visitors.

It took Frankfurt a while to find a way through the solid KSC defence, but they were slightly the more threatening side as the second half unfolded. Nils Texeira sent out a warning just after the break, and Chhunly Pagenburg planted the ball just wide before Peitz caught the hosts cold, nodding Selcuk Alibaz's corner into the back of the net to seal Karlsruhe's dream return.
