Bochum - VfL Bochum have agreed a deal with Bundesliga 2 rivals 1. FC Kaiserslautern to take Richard Sukuta-Pasu on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old, who spent last season out on loan with Austrian side SK Sturm Graz, will spend the 2013/14 season in Bochum before returning to the Red Devils, where he still has a contract until 2015.

Added strength

“Richard Sukuta-Pasu is a very talented forward who has matured in recent years and played a really strong season in Austria,” said Bochum’s sporting director Christian Hochstätter. “We are convinced that he will be able to help us in the coming season.”

Coach Peter Neururer, who recently committed himself to the Ruhrside club until 2015, added: “Sukuta-Pasu is a very talented player and I think it’s great that we've been able to sign him. He’s definitely going to strengthen our side in his position.”

European experience

The European Under-19 Championship winner for Germany in 2008 made 24 appearances in the Bundesliga for Kaiserslautern in the 2011/12 season before moving to Austria following their relegation to Bundesliga 2.

He had previously appeared in the German top flight for FC St. Pauli and Bayer 04 Leverkusen and, with 12 goals in 31 games in the Austrian Bundesliga last season, he helped Graz secure a place in the UEFA Europa League.

Close to home

Born in Wuppertal, he is now looking forward to returning closer to his roots. “I’m pleased to be able to play near my home again,” he said. “I had some really good talks with Peter Neururer and the management and am really looking forward to this new challenge.”
