Cologne - 1. FC Köln have moved to fill the void left by Holger Stanislawski's departure by announcing the appointment of Peter Stöger as head coach.

The 47-year-old joins from FK Austria Vienna, where he had been in charge since June 2012. "I'd like to thank 1. FC Köln for their efforts to bring me here and for the trust they've shown in my ability," said Stöger, who will start work this week. "Now my full focus is on pre-season training and achieving our targets. As I've stressed time an again, Köln is a club that belongs in the Bundesliga."
