Dresden - SG Dynamo Dresden's worst fears were confirmed on Tuesday morning as the club announced that captain Mickael Pote suffered a potentialy season-threatening injury during Monday's 2-0 loss to 1. FC Köln.

An MRI scan at a local hospital revealed that the 28-year-old striker had torn the medial collateral legament in his right knee, an injury that will require surgery, though no date has yet been set for the operation.

Big loss
"Mickael's injury has hit us very, very hard in our battle against relegation," said Dresden's sporting director Steffen Menze. "It's clear to everyone that the loss of our captain doesn't exactly make life easier in our current situation. Nevertheless we're now focusing on moving forward and have confidence in the players we'll be calling upon to compensate for this loss."
