Munich - 1. FC Kaiserslautern failed to close the gap on Bundesliga 2 leaders Eintracht Braunschweig as they were held to a draw in Matchday 8's top clash. Elsewhere, Dynamo Dresden got the better of Erzgebirge Aue in the Saxony Derby, while VfL Bochum snatched a late point at home to FC Ingolstadt.

1. FC Kaiserslautern 1-1 Eintracht Braunschweig

Both sides went into the match determined to maintain their unbeaten starts to the season and it was the home side who began more brightly. Yet despite having the larger share of possession in the first half hour, Kaiserslautern lacked ideas in the final third and it needed Florian Dick's beautifully executed free kick 25 minutes into the game to break the deadlock. The goal seemed to spark the Lions into life, but Mirko Boland and Dennis Kruppke failed to get the better of Tobias Sippel. At the other end of the pitch, Hendrick Zuck nearly doubled the lead with a classy scissors kick.

Braunschweig tried to up the pressure in the second half, yet often lacked the necessary pace to get past Kaiserslautern's defence. It took Orhan Ademi's wonderful individual effort after 75 minutes to restore parity, as the forward went past two defenders and the goalkeeper to hit the ball in from sharp angle. Neither side was able to score a winner, although Marc Torrejon did hit the post with a last-gasp effort.

Dynamo Dresden 3-1 Erzgebirge Aue

In a game that was a microcosm of their season, Dresden showed both the good and the bad sides of their play. Aue dominated the first half in a tense Saxony encounter in front of a sell-out crowd, but failed to seriously threaten their hosts' goal. Jakub Sylvestr had the visitors' only opportunity after nine minutes, but fired wide when well positioned. They were ruthlessly made to pay for that miss when Romain Bregerie twice headed crosses from Cristian Fiel into the net to give Dynamo a half time lead.

Despite being down to ten men for the final half an hour, Erzgebirge looked sharper and put their hosts under increasing pressure. Benjamin Kirsten was forced to make two reflex saves before Sylvestr got the better of Dresden's goalkeeper seven minutes from time. However, substitute Tobias Jänicke eventually restored the two-goal cushion to give the home side their first win at the Glücksgas-Stadion this season.

VfL Bochum 1-1 FC Ingolstadt

For long periods of the game it was clear to see why these two sides are languishing in mid-table. Bochum laboured to find a way through the deep-lying hosts and were caught cold in the ninth minute when the unmarked Caiuby nodded Christian Eigler's cross into the back of the net. At the other end, Bochum's attacking midfielders Slawo Freier and Yusuke Tasuka couldn't get their half-chances past Ingolstadt's goalkeeper Ramazan Özcan.

The match lacked further highlights until the hour mark, when the home side started throwing bodies forward in search of the equaliser. 17-year-old Leon Goretzka's skilful free kick bounced off the left post for Bochum and five minutes before the end of the match, their efforts finally came to fruition as defender Florian Brügmann coolly finished from close range.
