Munich - Three of the pre-season promotion favourites, Hertha BSC Berlin, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and SC Paderborn, all secured wins towards that possible end on Sunday. VfR Aalen tried and failed to quell the capital city side's talented frontline, MSV Duisburg are still stuck at the foot of the table after losing to Lautern and Aue couldn't make the most of their man-advantage against Paderborn.

Hertha BSC Berlin 2-0 VfR Aalen

Hertha created all the early pressure at the Olympiastadion, but having had a Sami Allagui penalty appeal turned down inside ten minutes, struggled to find a way through Aalen's resilient backline. The visitors were offering little in terms of an attacking threat and though Allagui and Adrian Ramos both had sights of goal, Berlin had to wait until the second half to break the deadlock. Ramos lost his marker to put the finishing touches on Marcel Ndjeng's corner and almost doubled his tally minutes later only to see the ball come back off the post. Aalen were still couldn't find a way past Tobias Sippel and it was left to Ramos to bag his brace, wrapping up the win with a simple finish after Nico Schultz had done all the hard work on the left.

1. FC Kaiserslautern 2-1 MSV Duisburg

The visitors enjoyed a more promising start to the match, yet it was Lautern who created the early chances as Mohammed Idrissou dragged a shot wide and Hendrick Zuck headed straight at Felix Wiedwald. The sides looked to be going in level at the break, but minutes before half-time Zuck burst into the box from Idrissou's through ball to clip an effort into the bottom corner. Duisburg threw caution to the wind after the restart and were soon rewarded when Valeri Domovchiyski netted the Zebras' first goal of the season from a poorly defended set-piece. It wasn't enough to take a share of the spoils though, as Lautern had the last laugh when substitute Mimoun Azaouagh's well-struck volley proved to be the winner.

Erzgebirge Aue 0-1 SC Paderborn

Stephan Schmidt made changes to his starting line-up for the first time this season to try and provide more support up front, but in a first half bereft of goalscoring chances at either end it seemed to have an inverse effect. Aue were harmless in front of goal and despite being handed a lifeline minutes into the second-half, when Diego Demme received a straight red for elbowing Jan Hochscheidt in the chest, they still managed go behind. Philipp Hoffmann, starting a match for the first time this season, latched onto a clearance with a half-volley that left Martin Männel no chance. The latter stages were littered with persistent fouling and a lack of quality allowing Paderborn to ease to all three points after an unattractive encounter.
