Cologne - Bundesliga 2 champions 1. FC Köln have continued their preparations for next season by sealing the capture of Chelsea FC's highly-rated Czech defender Tomas Kalas on loan for the the 2014/15 campaign.
Kalas joined Chelsea from SK Sigma Olomouc in 2010 and spent two seasons on loan at Dutch top-tier side Vitesse between 2011 and 2013, playing 62 times in the Eredivisie.
The 21-year-old, who has been capped once by the Czech national team, made two league appearances in the Premier League for the Blues in 2013/14, helping them to a third-placed finish under Jose Mourinho.
"My goal is to play as many games here as possible," said Kalas to www.fc-koeln.de. "I hope that I can help the club steer clear of the relegation battle and finish as high up in the table as possible."
