Royer to the rescue as Köln go third

Daniel Royer left it late, but his goal was worth third spot for Köln after a 2-1 victory against Jahn Regensburg

Cologne - Daniel Royer’s late strike took 1. FC Köln up to third in Bundesliga 2 and pushed SSV Jahn Regensburg even closer to an immediate return to the third division.

Köln had third place within their sights, yet they nearly stumbled at home to the bottom-placed club, failing to press on from Kevin McKenna’s first-half goal and Thomas Bröker's second-half penalty missenabled Marco Djuricin to bring the Bavarians level. However, Royer had the final say with a goal which took the Billy Goats above 1. FC Kaiserslautern and into the promotion play-off berth, leaving Regensburg eight points adrift of safety with seven games remaining.
