Düsseldorf - FC Schalke 04 midfielder Julian Draxler will miss Germany's upcoming UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier with Scotland after injuring his hamstring in the 4-2 friendly defeat to Argentina in Düsseldorf on Wednesday evening.
The 20-year-old, who was making his 14th appearance for his country, was withdrawn from the action after pulling up in the first half, and admitted afterwards his relief at being substituted.
"I won’t be able to play [against Scotland] on Sunday," he said. "It’s not too bad but I don’t want to take any risks - especially with the situation at Schalke. I can’t believe we have so many injuries at once. Thankfully I was subbed off in good time. One or two more sprints and I reckon it would have torn.”
The Gladbeck-born star, who debuted in the top flight back in January 2011 at the age of just 17, had featured in each of Schalke's two Bundesliga encounters this season, taking his total top-flight appearance figure to 103. The Royal Blues, 13th in the table with one point on the board, are next in action on 13 September, when they travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 3.
