Leverkusen snap up Ukrainian prodigy Yurchenko

Ukraine U-21 international Vladlen Yurchenko (r.) has joined Bayer Leverkusen from Shaktar

Leverkusen - UEFA Champions League play-off participants Bayer 04 Leverkusen have added to their squad for the 2014/15 season by sealing the signing of Ukraine U-21 international Vladlen Yurchenko from FC Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the Rhineland club until June 2016, with the club retaining the option of an extension.

Trusting in youth

“In Vladlen Yurchenko we’ve been able to sign a young and talented player who will hopefully take the next step in his career," commented sporting director Rudi Völler. "This is a transfer that fits perfectly with our philosophy of giving young, promising players a chance to prove themselves at a high level that they may not get elsewhere.”
