Munich - Nine current Bundesliga players have been named in Switzerland head coach Ottmar Hitzfeld's squad for this summer's upcoming FIFA World Cup.
FC Bayern München star Xherdan Shaqiri, Bayer 04 Leverkusen's latest signing Josip Drmic and SC Freiburg's Admir Mehmedi have all been named in the former Bayern and Borussia Dortmund boss' 23-man squad for the tournament that gets underway in Sao Paulo on 12 June.
Mehmedi's Freiburg team-mate Gelson Fernandes, Borussia Mönchengladbach's Granit Xhaka, Hamburger SV defender Johan Djourou and Eintracht Frankfurt's Tranquillo Barnetta, as well as VfL Wolfsburg duo Ricardo Rodriguez and Diego Benaglio, have also been selected. Goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who will join Gladbach this summer, is also included, but there is no place for Leverkusen forward Eren Derdiyok.
Switzerland face Ecuador in their opening World Cup match on 15 June, before taking on 1998 winners France five days later and finishing their group stage campaign against Honduras on 25 June.
