Munich - FC Bayern München midfielder Thiago Alcantara will be out of action for up to eight weeks after suffering a knee injury in the champions' 3-3 draw with 1899 Hoffenheim on Matchday 28.

The summer signing from FC Barcelona suffered a partial tear to the medial ligament in his right knee in Saturday's draw with the Sinsheim club and was replaced by captain Philipp Lahm after 25 minutes.

Missing for Man Utd

The 22-year-old had an X-ray after the game at the clinic of the club's chief medical officer Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller Wohlfahrt, where it was revealed he will be out for "six to eight weeks", meaning he will definitely miss both legs of the upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United FC, as well as the final weeks of the Bundesliga campaign.

Head coach Pep Guardiola said of the injury, "It's very bad news and we will miss him badly", while midfielder Thomas Müller added, "It's really disappointing and it comes at a catastrophic time for us, right before a lot of important matches".
