Hoffenheim - 1899 Hoffenheim forward Roberto Firmino has put pen to paper on a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2017.

The Brazilian, who made his 100th Bundesliga appearance in the club's 3-1 win over Hannover 96 on Wednesday, joined the Sinsheim side in January 2011 and has since gone on to establish himself as a first-team regular in a Hoffenheim squad brimming with potential.

Forward thinking

Firmino has been one of the standout players in Germany’s top flight during the current campaign, racking up 13 goals and 11 assists to date, and is looking forward to continuing his development with the Kraichgau outfit. “I feel very much at home here,” said the 22-year-old. “I like the path that the club is on. We play exciting football, the team spirit is great and I will continue working hard to help the team as much as I can in the future.”

Hoffenheim chairman Peter Rettig was equally delighted a deal could be struck: “We’re very happy that the club has been able to keep Roberto Firmino, a hugely important part of this young team, here in Hoffenheim." His sentiments were echoed by sporting director Alexander Rosen: “He’s a player with incredible ability, who has developed immensely in the last year under Markus Gisdol.”
