Munich - Last season's quadruple-winners FC Bayern München have been boosted by the news that midfielder Javi Martinez has returned to full training after a groin injury.
Almost seven weeks after undergoing surgery, the 25-year-old participated in team training on Sunday, a day after Bayern’s 4-1 win over 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Matchday 9, and came through the entire session unscathed.
“I enjoyed it,” said the former Athletic Bilbao man. “I’m finally back on the pitch and now I’m hoping to be able to help the team as much as I can in the next few games. But I need to be patient, as well as a lot of training.”
The Bavarians are next in action this coming Wednesday against FC Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Champions League, before hosting Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
During his recovery, Martinez cut a fine figure in Bayern's new Oktoberfest kit. Check it out on bundesliga.com's official YouTube channel:
