Nuremberg - 1. FC Nürnberg have parted company with head coach Michael Wiesinger and his assistant Armin Reutershahn in the wake of the club's 5-0 home defeat to Hamburger SV on Sunday.

Der Club announced the decision to dismiss the coaching team on Monday evening.

"Necessary step"

"After the 5-0 loss against Hamburg, a detailed review of our season so far and intensive discussions, we have come to the decision that this was a necessary step," said sporting director Martin Bader.

Wiesinger took the reins of the side on 24 December 2012 following Dieter Hecking's departure to join VfL Wolfsburg.

Replacement expected soon

Reserve coach Roger Prinzen will take charge of the first team on an interim basis, with a new permanent replacement for Wiesinger expected to be announced soon.

The Franconian club have failed to win a league match so far this season, earning just five points from their opening eight games, leaving them down in 16th in the league table. Wiesinger is the third coaching casualty in the Bundesliga this term, following Thorsten Fink's departure from Hamburger SV and Bruno Labbadia's dismissal from VfB Stuttgart.
