Schwegler faces up to three months out

Pirmin Schwegler faces what could be a lengthy spell on the sidelines after tearing ligaments in his knee

Bern - Eintracht Frankfurt captain Pirmin Schwegler has undergone a successful operation on his injured left knee but faces up to three months on the sidelines.

The Eagles’ midfielder had suffered torn ligaments after falling awkwardly during a training session while on international duty with Switzerland.

'Speedy recovery'

The hour-long operation, conducted by knee specialist Dr. Roland Biedert in his home country on Saturday, went smoothly and Schwegler is expected to return to Frankfurt by the beginning of next week.

Sporting director Bruno Hübner said: "We're pleased the operation went well and wish Pirmin a speedy recovery so he can return to the side as soon as possible."
