Derdiyok returns to Leverkusen on loan

Eren Derdiyok will be pulling on a Bayer Leverkusen shirt again this season after rejoining the club on loan from Hoffenheim

Leverkusen/Sinsheim - Bayer 04 Leverkusen have strengthened their squad for an assault on the Bundesliga, DFB Cup and UEFA Champions League by signing Eren Derdiyok on a season-long loan from league rivals 1899 Hoffenheim.

The Swiss forward returns to the club he represented between 2009 and 2012, scoring 24 goals in 89 appearances, just a year after leaving them.

Time for deliverance

“The signing of Eren Derdiyok means we have found a powerful, internationally experienced striker,” said Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Völler. “Eren knows how things work here in Leverkusen and he played some great games during his time here, but he was not always able to deliver on his full potential. We’re now giving him that chance. We’re convinced that he’ll take it.”

Derdiyok had recently been training with Hoffenheim’s reserves and he is now delighted to be given the chance to play in the Bundesliga again. “Leverkusen are the right club for me to get my career back on track,” said the 25-year-old. “I was always happy here and I know most of the team, and we’re playing in the Champions League. This is a great challenge and I’ll give it all I’ve got so that we'll be successful this year.”
