Munich - FC Bayern Munich defender Dante has been rewarded for his excellent form with a second call-up to the Brazil senior squad.
After making his debut in a friendly against England at Wembley last month, head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has opted to retain the 29-year-old for the Selecao’s upcoming friendlies against Italy on 21 March and Russia on 25 March.
“This call-up is even more exciting than the first call-up”, said an ecstatic Dante. “The first one was wonderful but this is great too, and it’s important to enjoy every moment. I’m very pleased to be called up to the national team, and even more so because my partner [at FC Bayern] Luiz Gustavo will be there. Now my focus is working hard and helping the team prepare for the Confederations Cup.”
With previous club Borussia Mönchengladbach and now with Bayern, Dante has matured into one of Europe’s most reliable defenders. This season he has organised a back four that has conceded just eight times in 24 league games as the German record titleholders remain on course for a treble of Bundesliga, DFB Cup and UEFA Champions League success.
