Huntelaar to miss Bayern clash

  • Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been ruled out of FC Schalke 04's trip to face FC Bayern on Saturday evening
  • The Royal Blues lost 2-0 to Bayern on Matchday 4 this season and were hammered 5-0 in a friendly during the winter break
  • Julian Draxler's (l.) participation is also hanging in the balance, while team-mate Christian Fuchs (r.) is suspended

Gelsenkirchen - As if travelling to the bear pit that is FC Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena this weekend were not enough, out-of-sorts FC Schalke 04 will now have to make do without star striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar against the league leaders.

The Dutch international has been ruled out due to a burst blood vessel in his left eye - the same injury that prevented the Royal Blues' frontman from joining up with his national team to face Italy on Wednesday (1-1).

Bitter blow

Eye specialists will be monitoring Hunterlaar's condition closely over the next few days, before making a decision as to when the 29-year-old can return to action. His loss is a bitter blow, especially with left-back Christian Fuchs already suspended following a fifth booking of the season and Julian Draxler doubtful after returning from international duty with a heavy cold.
