Frankfurt - Andreas Rettig has taken up his post as the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga’s new Chief Operating Officer responsible for League Operations & Licensing.
Rettig, 49, succeeds Holger Hieronymus and will work in an executive capacity alongside DFL CEO Christian Seifert. His contract runs until 31 December 2015.
With years of experience in various managerial capacities at professional club level, Rettig has extensive hands-on knowledge of the daily operations of both the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2. In addition, he has made influential contributions during previous stints on the League Association board, as chairman of the DFL national academies commission and in his work on the licensing committee, with a special focus on areas of particular current relevance such as talent promotion, fan liaison and the prevention of violence.
Rettig was sporting director of FC Augsburg until June 2012 and helped oversee the club's first-ever promotion to the Bundesliga in 2011. Prior to that, he held managerial posts at 1. FC Köln, SC Freiburg and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
