Munich – There was relief at Bayern Munich on Tuesday when a training ground injury suffered by record signing Javier Martinez proved less serious than initially feared.
Martinez had to break off practice and be helped back to the changing room following a tackle by Jerome Boateng, the German international having lost his footing in the slippery conditions. Club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt subsequently diagnosed the injury to the Spanish defensive midfielder's left ankle as a joint-capsule strain and he should be able to take part in full team training again on Thursday.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and striker Claudio Pizarro were meanwhile both back in training on Tuesday, having recovered from a stomach bug and bout of flu respectively. Bayern open Matchday 17 at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening and have their final competitive outing of 2012 at FC Augsburg in the last 16 of the DFB Cup the following Tuesday.
