FIFA World Cup winner Boateng is the unanimous choice as the first centre-back in your Team of the Hinrunde poll voted by Bundesliga fans on Twitter. The 27-year-old Berliner scooped a massive 73 per cent of the votes among @Bundesliga_EN users and as much as 74 per cent on @bundesliga_de. The cultured defender has truly been at the peak of his powers this season, helping Bayern establish an eight-point lead at the top of the table with just eight goals conceded in 17 matches.

Jerome Boateng

  • A mainstay in both FC Bayern and Germany’s backline, Boateng has won an exceptional 74 per cent of his challenges, a league-leading statistic.
  • In 990 minutes of top-flight action the 27-year-old has committed just four fouls.
  • Has also impressed with his ability to find team-mates with his long balls from the back, of which 58 per cent have found their mark.

Club: VfL Wolfsburg

  • The towering Brazilian is the sole VfL Wolfsburg player yet to miss a minute of action.
  • Leads his side in challenges won with a 60 per cent success rate.
  • Remains without a goal in the current Bundesliga campaign despite having had more shots (22) than any other top-flight defender.
  • Once scored the only Bundesliga hat-trick by a defender.

John Anthony Brooks

Age: 22

Club: Hertha Berlin

  • Has scored once this season.
  • Has registered a further assist.
  • Remarkably for a centre-half, has yet to be booked this campaign.

Niko Bungert

Age: 29

Club: 1. FSV Mainz 05

  • Has completed over 82 per cent of his attempted passes so far this campaign.
  • Featured 15 times as Mainz climbed to an impressive eighth at the winter break.
  • Created six chances for his team-mates in the first half of the season.
  • Captained his side to victory over VfL Wolfsburg on Matchday 12.
