Gladbach crush Sarajevo to reach Group stages

Branimir Hrgota bagged a treble as Gladbach crushing Sarajevo to reach the Europa League group stages

Mönchengladbach - Borussia Mönchengladbach stormed into the group stages of the Europa League after hammering FK Sarajevo 7-0 in their play-off second leg, winning the tie 10-2 on aggregate.

Branimir Hrgota was the star of the show again for the Foals, bagging a hat-trick to go with his brace in the first leg, with Andre Hahn, Granit Xhaka and Thorgan Hazard (2) also finding the net to send the Foals into the hat for Friday's group stage draw in Monaco.

Hahn finds the gap

Sarajevo needed at least two goals to have any hope of reaching the next round following last week's 3-2 loss to Borussia, but after starting brightly, they were undone by a speculative strike from Hahn that found the inside of the post after 20 minutes. Granit Xhaka then added a second with a rasping drive from distance and Hrgota grabbed the first of three with a tap-in from a Fabian Johnson cross.

Midway through the second half, the Swede was celebrating again when he volleyed in stylishly after collecting a Raffael pass, before Hazard entered the fray for a cameo that left fans in awe of what he could achieve at the club in his loan spell this season.

Set-piece master

When fellow substitute Patrick Herrmann was felled in the box, Belgian international Hazard, younger brother of Chelsea FC winger Eden, stepped up to coolly slot home the penalty, his first goal for the club, before Hrgota's curling effort completed his treble.

In the dying minutes, Hazard then curled in a sumptuous free-kick to leave Borussia in seventh heaven and the fans expectant ahead of tomorrow's draw, not to mention hopeful of a successor to free-kick scoring legend Juan Arrange, who left the club in the summer.
