USA head coach Jürgen Klinsmann has named eight players from the Bundesliga and Bundesliga in a squad for a transition camp and friendly against Puerto Rico.
From the Bundesliga, Klinsmann has called up Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach), John Anthony Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Alfredo Morales (FC Ingolstadt 04) and Julian Green (FC Bayern München), while Bobby Wood (1. FC Union Berlin), Fabrice-Jean Picault (FC St. Pauli), Caleb Stanko and Zack Steffen (both SC Freiburg) will also join up with the senior squad in Miami for a week of training followed by a friendly against Puerto Rico.
At the end of April, Klinsmann also named a preliminary 40-man squad for the upcoming Copa America Centenario, which begins in California on 3 June when the US host Colombia. Six Germany-based players were included in that list: Wood, Johnson, Brooks and Morales, along with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Timothy Chandler and Borussia Dortmund’s 17-year-old starlet Christian Pulisic.
“We added some players coming from the younger side to look at them and to get a roster together, but the main purpose of this camp is to keep the rhythm, keep going and to transition perfectly into the preparation for the Copa America Centenario," said Klinsmann, who himself represented VfB Stuttgart and FC Bayern München in a distinguished Bundesliga career.
