Julian Nagelsmann extends Germany contract to 2026 World Cup
Julian Nagelsmann has signed a new contract to remain in charge of Germany through to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nagelsmann, 36, had originally taken over the national team from Hansi Flick in September 2023 on a short-term deal that would cover this summer’s home UEFA Euro 2024 campaign. He will now continue to oversee the four-time world champions through their qualifiers and any potential games at the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA.
“It’s a decision of the heart,” Nagelsmann said of his renewal. “It’s a great honour to coach the national team and get to work with the country’s best players. We now want a successful home Euros. Then I and my coaching staff will look forward to the challenge of a World Cup.”

But the national team is more than a job for Julian. We now have certainty in our planning and can all concentrate on a successful Euros.”
National team sporting director Rudi Völler also said: “We were absolutely convinced of Julian prior to the recent friendly wins, but they again showed the enthusiasm that Julian and his team can spark again in Germany.
