Gio Reyna in Borussia Dortmund squad for USA summer tour to face Liverpool and Seattle Sounders
USA youth international Gio Reyna has been named in Borussia Dortmund's senior squad for their summer trip to the USA, where they will play friendlies against the Seattle Sounders and Liverpool as part of their preparations for the 2019/20 season.
The 16-year-old, who recently stated his desire to play for the first team this season, only officially joined BVB at the start of July and has initially been earmarked for the club's U19 team.
He scored on his debut appearance for the youth side on Friday, netting in a 4-0 friendly victory over TSG Sprockhövel. First team head coach Lucien Favre evidently liked what he saw and selected the attacking midfielder in his 26-man travelling squad, alongside the likes of Marco Reus, Jadon Sancho and Mats Hummels.
Manuel Akanji, Abdou Diallo, Mahmoud Dahoud, Sergio Gomez (both extended holiday after UEFA U21 Euros), Achraf Hakimi (AFCON Cup) and Marcel Schmelzer (injured) have not made the trip.
Dortmund leave for the US on Monday 15 July and the first leg of their Stateside visit involves a friendly against the Seattle Sounders two days later.
Following that, they will face former boss Jürgen Klopp and reigning European champions Liverpool in another friendly in Notre Dame, Indiana on Friday 19 July.
