LEWANDOWSKI DENIED!

Flekken's at it again, diving low to his left to swat away Lewandowski's downward header. Will he claim the record for his own today?!

GÜNTER LEVELS!

Superb strike from Günter - low and hard across Nübel - and Freiburg are level!

LEWANDOWSKI MUST SCORE!

But no! After forcing a quite brilliant stop from Flekken, Lewandowski has the outright record on the end of his toe, but miscues from barely a yard out.

AND CHANGES

Two of the like-for-like variety as Coman comes on for Sane in attack, and Sarr replaces Süle at right-back.
73'

CHANCES

Haberer sends a header wide from Grifo's cross, moments after Nübel had denied Günter at his near post. Freiburg come again with Haberer, who's denied by the on-rushing Nübel. The hosts sense they can get something from this one...

ALL CHANGE

Alaba slots into the back four as Hernandez makes way for Roca. Tolisso's also on after recovering from a thigh injury sustained back in February. Messrs Schmid and Haberer replace Sallai and Petersen respectively for Freiburg.
56'

DEMIROVIC OFF TARGET

And off! The Freiburg striker is replaced by Lucas Höler, moments after finding the side netting with a close-range attempt, following a fine bit of combination play involving Grifo anf Günter. Should have hit the target.

BAYERN RETAKE THE LEAD!

Sane takes out three players with a quite brilliant run, before setting up Gnabry for a routine finish at the back post - but it won't count! Bayern's next effort does... Alaba lifts a superb ball into the box for Müller, whose cushioned pass is tucked away by Sane on the stretch. He deserved that after VAR denied him a quite brilliant assist moments ago.

LUCKY BOY

Nübel handles outside his own area. The whistle sounds, but for an offside against a Freiburg player.

END TO END

Freiburg turn defence into attack, but Bayern recover the ground just as Grifo connects with his shot on the edge of the area, and it's deflected away. The champions go on the attack soon after, but Sane trips over himself under pressure from Kübler as he bears down on Flekken's goal.

LEGENDOWSKI

Lewandowski's only failed to score in four of his 28 Bundesliga appearances this season. Imagine how many more he'd have scored if he hadn't missed five matches through injury...

FREIBURG LEVEL!

Bayern are still celebrating Lewy's feat as Gulde levels. He escaped the attentions of Süle to meet Grifo's superb corner. Game on!

HISTORY IS MADE!

Lewandowski waits for Flekken to make his move, before rolling the ball into the net. That's his 40th of the Bundesliga season, equalling the long-standing record set by Gerd Müller in 1971/72. He's had a '4EVER GERD' T-shirt made for the occasion, and even gets a guard of honour from his teammates and coaches. Classy stuff. What a player!

PENALTY!

Lukas Kübler denies Leroy Sane with a superb last-ditch challenge, the Freiburg defender prodding the ball behind. He catches Müller from the ensuing corner, though, and the referee gives a penalty following a VAR review. Lewandowski to take...

TECH ISSUES

We're midway through the first half, by the way. You might have noticed our automated clock isn't functioning - but we're working on it!

LEWANDOWSKI CHANCE!

Big, big opportunity for that man Lewandowski. A Freiburg defender touches Alaba's square ball away from Müller, but in doing so sets up Lewandowski for a free shot at goal on the edge of the D. He has the entire goal-frame to aim for - and the time to take a touch - but side-foots wide first time.

YELLOW PERIL

Roland Sallai goes into the book after catching Davies in the face. The Hungary international will now miss Freiburg's final match of the season at Eintracht Frankfurt.

NOBODY HOME

Süle stays up following a corner, and cuts a telling ball back across the six-yard area. Luckily for Freiburg, there isn't a Bayern shirt in sight and it's hoofed clear.

CATCH HIM IF YOU CAN

The FC Bayern Road Runner is setting the pace in the Black Forest. He's the Bundesliga's fastest player on record, though it's Mainz's Jerry St. Juste who has clocked the quickest speed of the current campaign (22.4 mph/ 36.1 km/h).

WIDE FROM SANE

Freiburg over commit, and suddenly Bayern can break. Sane has men left and right, but goes it alone. He cuts onto his left foot, before whipping low, hard and narrowly wide from 18 yards.

GRIFO OFF TARGET

Freiburg win a free-kick in the Bayern half. It's perfect for the right foot of top scorer Vincenzo Grifo, but the Italy international's in-swinger is neither cross nor shot, and Nübel can just watch it wide of his far post.

UNDER WAY!

The ball's rolling in Freiburg. The hosts are in red and white; Bayern are in their change navy number. Can Lewy do it? He's on four yellow cards - if he gets booked, he'll be suspended for the final-day meeting with Augsburg.

WATCH: THE MAKING OF LEWANGOALSKI

"You know, for me the motivation isn't to be the best or be one of the best for five minutes," Lewandowski said in another bundesliga.com exclusive. "I know what it means to be on the top but to stay on the top. I'm ready for this, for years I've tried to be on the top, not only for one season, and I know that to be on the top for a long time, you need to work hard. I want to show that it's not about what happens in one year, no matter how many titles you have won, you can still win more. It's my ambition, I'm a guy who doesn't think about the past, I'm thinking about the future."

'LEWANDOWSKI'S A PHENOMENON'

"I think Robert Lewandowski is a real phenomenon," Jürgen Klinsmann told bundesliga.com this week. "He deserves all the credit in the world. I hope he can crack the record of Gerd Müller. He is one goal short. I wish it will be possible for him because it's a very special record, I mean, what Gerd Müller did in his time was phenomenal too. It was exceptional. Obviously, he was the biggest striker we had in Germany. So, he's a very, very special player and a special person but if he gets a chance to break that record, I think it would mean a lot."

HIGHLIGHTS - COLOGNE 1-4 FREIBURG

The result perhaps flattered Freiburg in the end, but they won't care. Victory at second-bottom Cologne kept their hopes of European qualification alive. A win today, coupled with favourable results elsewhere could take them up to seventh.

HIGHLIGHTS - BAYERN 6-0 GLADBACH

Champions for the ninth time in a row before a ball was kicked, thanks to Dortmund's win over Leipzig, Bayern ran riot against Gladbach last weekend.

MORE ON THOSE TEAMS

With the title sewn up, Hansi Flick hands goakeeper Alexander Nübel his first Bundesliga start as a Bayern player. Niklas Süle replaces Benjamin Pavard at right-back, while Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry come in on the flanks.

LEWANGOALSKI ONE GOAL FROM HISTORY

Is this the day Gerd Müller's 40-goal single-season record goes under? Having scored 39 Bundesliga times this term and 18 in 17 career meetings with Freiburg, Robert Lewandowski will be quietly confident of at least equalling the eye-watering best mark, which has stood for almost 50 years.
