BIG WIN FOR UNION!

The final whistle blows and the visitors erupt in celebration. It was a terrific performance from the promoted side, who climb above Frankfurt in the table to go nine points clear of the relegation zone.

BRILLIANT FROM TRAPP

Felix Kroos, who's only been on the pitch a couple of minutes, lashes a ball at goal from the edge of the box. It's sailing towards the top corner but Trapp makes a fantastic save to keep it out.

FIVE ADDED MINUTES

We're into stoppage time now and Frankfurt are looking the more likely side to score next. Can Union hang on?
89'

HOPE FOR EINTRACHT

They've scored 13 times in the final 15 minutes of their Bundesliga games this season, two more than they've managed in the first half of their matches.
87'

PINBALL IN THE BOX!

A corner causes havoc in the Union area and it looks like Frankfurt are going to equalise, but Gikiewicz makes an outstanding save to deny Kamada, before Silva and Kostic are both crowded out and the visitors breathe a sigh of relief.
86'

CLOSE FROM PRÖMEL!

The ball sits up nicely for the Union sub on the edge of the Frankfurt box and he doesn't hestitate so smack a hañf-volley at goal that Trapp does superbly to tip over for a corner.
85'

SILVA HEADS WIDE

A brilliant cross from the right from Chandler finds Silva in the middle of the Union box. He gets a good header on it, but can only direct the ball wide of the far post.
79'

FRANKFURT BACK IN IT!

This is an audacious finish from Silva! Paciencia's shot is diverted away from goal but Silva chases it down and, with his back to goal, back-heels it past Gikiewicz. It takes a slight deflection off Hübner and rolls over the line. Game on!

FRANKFURT FIRED UP

It's all Frankfurt right now and they seem to be winning every tackle in an effort to force a way back into the game. Chandler snatches a shot wide at the far post with a shot that's indicative of the match so far: they've only really had half-chances against a superb Union rearguard.
71'

THREE AT THE BACK FOR FRANKFURT

Hütter switches things up as he looks to get his side back into the game, bringing on Rode in midfield, with Hasebe dropping back into defence in place of Ndicka.
70'

GLORIOUS CHANCE FOR PACIENCIA!

The Portuguese forward must score as he's played in on goal after some lovely one-touch passing, but Gikiwicz is quick off his line to block his effort.
68'

UNION DOUBLE THEIR ADVANTAGE!

Just seconds after Frankfurt bring on Silva for Durm in a bid to force an equaliser, the visitors extend their lead. Trapp can't collect a low cross from the left and only palms it onto the boot of Ndicka, who is under pressure from Andersson and inadvertently knocks it into his own goal.

BÜLTER BLAZES OVER!

Paciencia is muscled off the ball in midfield and all of a sudden Union have four against three on the counter. It's played to the right to Bülter, who's just entering the penalty area, but he rushes his shot and slams it into the terraces behind the goal.
64'

FRESH IMPETUS FOR UNION

Malli, who was lively in the first half but relatively quiet in the second, is taken off and replaced by Ingvartsen as head coach Fischer looks to inject fresh blood into his attack.
62'

SO CLOSE FROM PACIENCIA!

Paciencia again gets a header on a corner, this time leaping high at the back post and redirecting his effort back across goal. Gikiewicz is completely wrong-footed, but the ball just evades the top corner and goes over.
60'

KAMADA BLOCKED!

It's a lovely turn in midfield from the Japanese playmaker and all of a sudden space opens up for him. He's got Kostic out to his left, but he opts to shoot from the edge of the area - only to see his effort blocked before it's properly left his boot.
59'

OVER FROM PACIENCIA

Frankfurt swing in a corner from the right and it's straight to Paciencia. He gets good power behind his header, but he can't keep it down.
54'

ANDERSSON ENDS HIS DROUGHT

That goal was the Swede's ninth of the season, and first since netting a brace in the 2-0 win over Cologne on Matchday 14. It's also the first goal scored by one of Union's strikers in 2020.
53'

KOHR DRAGS A SHOT WIDE

That goal seems to have lit a fire under Frankfurt and they're getting forward with greater purpose now as they search for an equaliser. Kohr spies a corner of the goal from around 20 yards out, but his shot never troubles Gikiewicz and rolls wide.
49'

UNION LEAD!

Given the way they played in the first half it's not undeserved, but Frankfurt will be kicking themselves at this. Durm, Abraham and Trapp all leave a seemingly harmless ball for each other, allowing Lenz to skip in between them and pull the ball back for Andersson to tap into the unguarded net!
47'

SECOND HALF!

Union get the action under way once more.

ALL SQUARE AT THE BREAK

It may still be 0-0 but it’s been an entertaining game so far. Frankfurt haven’t really hit their stride yet, with that chance on the stroke of half-time as close as they’ve come to breaking the deadlock. Union have been aggressive and bold and have arguably edged things so far. All to play for after the interval.

FRANKFURT INCHES AWAY!

Ndicka crosses from the left and Hübner arrives to head clear, but he glances it over his own goalkeeper and just wide of the far post! That was very, very close.
43'

NO JOY IN THE FINAL THIRD

Both teams are continuing to attack whenever they get the ball, but moves on both sides are invariably petering out as they approach the danger zone.
38'

GIKIEWICZ A SPECTATOR

For all Eintracht's endeavour and dominance of possession (52 per cent), Union goalkeeper Gikiewicz still hasn't had to make a save in this match.
34'

BÜLTER GOES CLOSE!

A rare mistake from Hasebe in midfield as he gets caught in possession. Andrich immediately initiates a counter attack, powering forward before laying a perfectly waited pass into the path of Bülter, whose momentum takes him beyond Abraham. He's on his unfavoured left foot though, and hesistates just long enough for the defneder to get back and put him under pressure, forcing him to shoot wide.
32'

CHANDLER CURLS A SHOT OVER

Having waited half an hour for some Chandler involvement, he's now had two efforts on goal inside the space of a minute! He makes a superb diagonal run behind the Union defence to collect a long ball, turn inside Lenz and curl a shot over Gikiewicz towards the top-right corner. He does really well, but his shot has too much on it and sails off target.
30'

CHANDLER HEADS WIDE

The 29-time USA international hasn't really featured going forward so far, but gets involved for the first time here as he meets a lofted cross to the back post. He does well under pressure, but can't direct his header on target.
26'

NICE FROM DURM

The Frankfurt defender twists and turns on the left-hand edge of the Union box before squaring the ball into space. It's a decent idea, but his pass is just behind Paciencia and just too strong for the onrushing Kamada.
25'

UNION HOLDING THEIR OWN

The visitors have won 61 per cent of all tackles so far and have had five efforts on goal to Frankfurt's two.
22'

OPENING FOR MALLI!

Friedrich curls a ball over the Frankfurt defence from the right wing, perfectly onto the foot of the arriving Malli at the back post. He has a clear sight of goal, but doesn't make a clean connection on his volley, leaving Trapp to make an easier save than he was probablyt expecting.
16'

MALLI TESTS TRAPP

Bülter does well to skip away from Kamada down the left before playing the ball inside to Malli. He's about 25 yards out, left of centre, but his shot as straight at Trapp, who makes the save.
13'

ANDRICH HITS THE BAR!

Union break forward and Andrich is afforded time to shoot, just inside the Frankfurt area. It gets a deflection and loops up over Trapp and onto the bar. The rebound is smashed over. That was a close one, and a warning sign the Eagles would do well to heed, even if Andrich was flagged for offside.
13'

CHANCE FOR PACIENCIA

Kostic with a brilliant delivery from a corner towards Paciencia, who's all alone in the six-yard box. He must score... but a last-ditch tackle prevents him from turning the ball in from close range.
11'

PROMISING FROM RYERSON

The Norwegian youngster drives into the Frankfurt box past Ndicka and delivers a cross into the middle. It loops up off the defender's foot though, and the hosts can clear.
8'

PACIENCIA HEADS WIDE

Kostic with a lovely cross from the left to pick out Paciencia, whose diving header whistles just wide of the far post.
7'

CHANCE FOR SUBOTIC!

Andrich pings a corner from the right into the box and once again Subotic is first to it. He gets more meat behind his header this time, but can't direct it on target.
6'

UNION SITTING DEEP

Emplying a high press early on is a favoured tactic of many Bundesliga teams these days, but Union have opted to be a bit more cautious here. They're sitting back in their own half and getting numbers behind the ball, only really closing their Frankfurt counterparts down once they get to the halfway line.
4'

COMFORTABLE SAVE FROM TRAPP

Malli floats in a free-kick from deep and Subotic is first to it. He gets a decent header on the ball but can't really generate enough power to trouble Trapp, who makes a routine save.
2'

HOSTS ON TOP

Frankfurt go on the front foot straight away, with Kostic causing a few problems with an out-swinging corner from the left, before wriggling past his marker and drilling a low cross into the box. Union manage to clear both times, though.

LINING UP

The teams are out on the pitch and going through the pre-match handshakes and formalities. We'll be up and running very soon.

FISCHER: “CARRY ON FROM OUR RECENT PERFORMANCES”

Hütter’s Union counterpart Urs Fischer, who has won a number of plaudits this season for his team’s performances in steering clear of the relegation zone, laid out his game plan at his pre-match media briefing. “We want to try and put them under pressure when they have the ball, and when we have it we want to carry on where we left off in our recent performances.”

HÜTTER: “WE NEED TO FIND GOOD SOLUTIONS”

“Union are a team that are very strong in the tackle,” said Eintracht boss Adi Hütter at his pre-match press conference. “They’re tough to break down and difficult to play against. We’ll need to find good solutions.”

BOGEY TEAM FOR UNION

Union have never managed to beat Frankfurt in a competitive game. The reverse fixture earlier this season - a 2-1 win for the Eagles' - was the teams' maiden top-flight encounter, but they have also faced off in the DFB Cup once and six times in Bundesliga 2. Of those remaining seven meetings, Frankfurt have won four and drawn three. The odds are therefore very much in the home team's favour for this one.

FRANKFURT TEAM NEWS

Adi Hütter has once again rotated his team following Thursday's Europa League victory over Salzburg, especially with the return leg coming up this week. Bas Dost (groin), Stefan Ilsanker (hip) and Danny da Costa (toe) are all sidelined with injury, while hard-running midfielders Sebastian Rode and Mijat Gacinovic are given a rest on the bench. Goncalo Paciencia leads the attack, supported by Filip Kostic and Daichi Kamada - who netted a hat-trick against Salzburg last week.

UNION TEAM NEWS

The main change to the Union team is the absence of suspended captain Christopher Trimmel. Not only will his leadership be missed, but also his attacking impetus: the 33-year-old is the team's leading assist provider with four, while he's also the desginated free-kick taker (21 so far this season) and regularly peppers the opposition area with crosses (47 in 2019/20). His replacement in the side, 22-year-old Julian Ryerson, therefore has some big shoes to fill.

FRANKFURT STARTING XI:

Trapp - Durm, Abraham (c), Hinteregger, N'Dicka - Chandler, Hasebe, Kohr, Kostic - Kamada - Paciencia

FRANKFURT SUBS:

Rönnow, De Guzman, Sow, Gacinovic, Rode, Toure, Cetin, Silva, Cavar

UNION BERLIN STARTING XI:

Gikiewicz - Friedrich, Hübner, Subotic - Ryerson, Gentner, Andrich, Lenz - Malli, Bülter - Andersson

UNION BERLIN SUBS:

Nicolas, Polter, Ujah, Reichel, Prömel, Kroos, Becker, Parensen, Ingvartsen
