Bundesliga Bundesliga 2

Matchday 3 presented FC Bayern Munich with their first local derby of the season as they hosted 1. FC Nürnberg, but the pre-match
talk centred around one man - Mario Götze - who was given his Bundesliga debut for the champions Playing in a central attacking midfield position alongside Thiago, Götze often had to come looking for possession as the visitors held
a compact shape in the first half. He was much involved in play, though, with 59 touches of the ball A posse of Nürnberg players seemed to surround Götze (r. against Timothy Chandler) whenever he received the ball. He isn't known for his tackling, but ten
successful 50/50 challenges was an impressive statistic for the former Borussia Dortmund man Götze (r.) was always looking to make something happen when in possession, and Nürnberg did their best to limit his impact, by foul means or fair The Germany international (r.) was upended three times in the 68 minutes he played, more than any
other Bayern player. Nürnberg's Niklas Stark (m.) was the offender on this occasion Götze only attempted one cross in the game - a dangerous delivery that Mario Mandzukic almost reached at the back
post - but It was further proof of his wide range of skills The Bayern No19 had missed the beginning of the season with a groin injury and is still working
his way back to full fitness, probably the reason why he ran a modest 8.82 km in the game Götze was eventually withdrawn after 68 minutes of the 2-0 victory and left the pitch to rousing applause from the supporters. His display obviously impressed
vice-captain Bastian Schweinsteiger too, who commented, "Mario had a good game. He's a great asset to our team."
