Bundesliga Bundesliga 2

Javi Martinez was Bayern Munich's most high-profile signing of the 2012 summer - bundesliga.com presents his career to date in pictures: Aged just 17, Martinez (r.)
made his debut for Athletic Bilbao in the Primera Division. The defensive all-rounder went onto make 32 starts in his first campaign as a professional. In 2007 Martinez (l.) helped Spain to UEFA U-21 EURO glory but went out in the group stage two years later as a Germany side featuring Mesut Özil (m.) lifted the trophy. Once opponents, now colleagues - at the 2011 U-21 EURO in Denmark, Javi Martinez (back) captained Spain
to the title with a 2-0 final victory over a Switzerland side featuring current Bayerns star Xherdan Shaqiri (front). Martinez has also had a taste of glory at senior level as part of the Spain squads which triumphed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and at UEFA EURO 2012. A battle we'll be seeing more often from now on - Martinez (m.) challenges Nuremberg's
Japanese international Hiroshi Kiyotake (r.) in the first round of the 2012 London Olympics. In the 2011/12 season, Martinez (l.) helped Bilbao to the final of the UEFA Europa League, where they were downed 3-0 by fellow Spanish team Atletico Madrid. Martinez may be a more defence-oriented player, but he certainly poses a threat going forward - he netted 25 times in 250 appearances for Bilbao. In 2010 the defensive midfielder (r. challenging Barcelona's Lionel Messi) was voted the best young player in Spain. The Spanish star began his Bundesliga adventure with record champions FC Bayern Munich in July 2012. He was an almost ever-present in the 2012/13 Champions League campaign for Bayern,
contributing to a monumental 7-0 aggregate victory over FC Barcelona in the semi-finals
