Title

This is done and dusted already, with Leverkusen ending Bayern’s 11-year reign with the third-quickest title in 61 seasons of the Bundesliga on Matchday 29. The question now for the Werkself is whether they can become the first-ever unbeaten side, a dream they kept alive with yet another remarkable stoppage-time equaliser on Matchday 31 against third-placed VfB Stuttgart

UEFA Champions League

Leverkusen also became the first team from any country to book their place in the revamped 2024/25 Champions League way back on Matchday 27.

Matchday 31 saw semi-finalists Bayern officially clinch their Champions League spot with a win against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Borussia Dortmund's semi-final first-leg victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday secured the Bundesliga a fifth Champions League qualifier berth. Therefore, VfB Stuttgart, RB Leipzig and BVB are all now assured of Champions League football in 2024/25 regardless of what happens over the remaining three matchdays.

Remaining European places

As it stands, sixth place will mean entry into the UEFA Europa League, seventh to the UEFA Conference League. The latter could even drop to eighth depending on the result of the DFB Cup final and how the European competitions play out.

Frankfurt have occupied sixth place since the mid-point of the season and are five points clear of Freiburg. Eintracht can secure that spot this weekend if they beat Leverkusen after all of Augsburg, Freiburg and Hoffenheim failed to win.

Currently, every team down to Wolfsburg in 12th place could still qualify for Europe.

Relegation

The bottom two drop down to Bundesliga 2 automatically, while third from bottom will contest the play-off against the team that finishes third in the second division.

Bottom side Darmstadt are relegated after only one season back in the top flight after their loss to fellow promoted side Heidenheim.

Cologne in 17th are four points behind Mainz and, after their 0-0 draw with Freiburg on Saturday, will also go down if the 05er win at Heidenheim on Sunday and Union Berlin draw with Bochum.

Survival

Coaches often talk about the magic 40-point mark to ensure safety. That total - in fact, 39 points - will indeed be enough to guarantee a place in the Bundesliga for 2024/25.

Freiburg (seventh), Hoffenheim (eighth) and Augsburg (ninth) are now mathematically safe and will play in the top flight again next season, as are Werder Bremen (10th) after their 2-2 draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Heidenheim (11th) and Wolfsburg (12th) cannot finish lower than 16th and, given their goal differences, it is close to impossible for them to finish in the relegation play-off spot.

Top-flight debutants Heidenheim, as well as Die Wölfe, will be assured of a spot in the Bundesliga next term if the former draw with Mainz or there's a winner between Union and Bochum.

Cologne's draw mean Gladbabe relegated automatically, but their point against Bremen's means a 16th-placed finish is still possible.

Union Berlin and Bochum will be assured of at least a play-off spot if one of them wins their Sunday encounter, or they play out a draw.

Mainz will also guarantee they can't automatically go down if they win in Heidenheim.
